Changing username while in a GitHub classroom #193031

Changing your username won't break your Classroom standing. A few things that actually matter: GitHub tracks accounts by an internal numeric ID, not by username. Your professor's roster, your submissions, and your past work stay linked to you after the rename. You won't get kicked off. Repo URLs get a redirect set up automatically. git remote set-url origin git@github.com:new-username/repo-name.gitTwo gotchas worth knowing:
Future Classroom assignments you accept will spin up repos under your new username automatically. No extra step needed on your side. One thing I'd do before renaming, tell your professor in a quick message. Not because they need to do anything, just so nothing looks weird on their end if they're hunting through the roster by name rather than by student link. |

GitHub Classroom
Hi everyone,
Hello, I am planning on changing my github username to something more professional, as I'm getting closer to entering the workforce.
I am currently enrolled in a GitHub Classroom managed by my professor, what will be the consequences of changing my username?
Will my previous submissions be nullified, or will my professor still have access to them? All of the repos within the classroom end in my username. Will I be kicked out of the classroom or will it automatically move over everything to my new username?
